Ben Harder is the general manager of health and science at U.S. News & World Report, where he oversees projects such as the Best Hospitals rankings.


He also contributes to the Washington Post's "How and Why" science column.

From 2001 to 2007, he was a medical reporter and, later, the web editor at Science News. One of his Science News features was anthologized in Best American Science Writing 2005.

Ben's articles have also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Discover, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Slate, and USA Today.

In the '90s, Ben worked for the Let's Go travel guides as a correspondent in Southeast Asia, a guidebook editor and eventually the company's editor in chief.

Since joining U.S. News in 2007, Ben has at turns served its magazine and website as a health editor, science editor, and senior director of business development.
